58 arrested in weekend operations in Durban CBD

The operations comprised of various units from the SAPS, Metro Police, Home Affairs, Department of Labour and other stakeholders.

IN the fight against crime in the Durban Central Business District (CBD), multi-disciplinary operations were put in place on Friday morning.

The operations comprised of various units from the SAPS, Metro Police, Home Affairs, Department of Labour and other stakeholders.

Sgt Zanele Khomo from Durban Central SAPS said an operation was conducted in the Durban CBD. Illegal posters were removed and compliance in terms of the Disaster  Management Act as well as the non-compliance of municipal bylaws was policed.

“The operation yielded good results. Two suspects were found to be in illegal possession of firearms and were arrested. Another operation focused on preventing robberies in the CBD,” said Khomo.

 A total of 58 suspects were arrested for operations that were conducted from Friday until Sunday for various crimes such as possession of drugs (heroin), rape, robbery, attempted murder, possession of illegal cigarettes drinking and driving, possession of illegal goods, selling liquor, bribery, contravention of the Disaster Management Act and illegal immigrants.  

“A total of 32 fines were issued for offences such as trading without a permit, failing to comply with police instructions and other offences,” said Khomo.
