Durbanites rise to the occasion after bread tag query

Penny Lombaard received a good response from the community regarding the collection of bread tags.

UMBILO’s Penny Lombaard was overwhelmed by the response she received following an article in a recent Berea Mail, where she questioned whether anyone in the community still collected bread tags for charity.

Penny was looking for somewhere to drop off the large bags of bread tags she and Janice McKenzie, principal of a Glenashley school, along with the school children, had collected over the past year.

Penny and Janice worked together to collect the bread tags, which are collected by charity to sponsor a wheelchair for someone in need.

“I was blown away by the response I received from the community after the article in Berea Mail. Gloria Hoff from the KZNSA Gallery contacted me to say I could use the shop as a drop off point for bread tags, so if anyone wants to help with collecting bread tags for charity, they can drop the tags at the shop at KZNSA,” she said.

Penny previously dropped bread tags off with a resident, Lyn McIlvaney, who collects various items for different charities.

Although Lyn no longer collects tags, she is still looking for donations of newspaper, can tops (tags), and metal (alcohol) and plastic bottle tops. Contact Lyn on 072 345 2667. Contact Gloria at KZNSA on 031 277 1700.
