Umbilo copper thief finally caught

A thief, who had been stealing copper pipes from the homes of Umbilo residents, was finally apprehended.

A copper thief who had been plaguing the Umbilo community was finally apprehended.

The thief was caught by Blue Security officers on Thursday after they responded to a call-out from a Glenmore resident who had reported that her copper pipes had been stolen from her property.

Andreas Mathios, Blue Security media liaison and community officer, said the suspect had last been spotted running down the road.

After patrolling nearby streets, the officer noticed a pedestrian a short distance away carrying a white sack, said Mathios.

“The man was confronted and on searching the bag, the officer discovered the stolen copper pipes,” said Mathios.
