THE eThekwini Municipality will shut down the water supply for 19 hours in at least 62 areas around Durban on 25 February.
The planned interruption is to repair a failed scour valve at Umgeni Water, said the city.

The shutdown is planned to start on 25 February 2021 at 1am and end on 25 February at 8pm.
“This will result in a 50 per cent reduced treatment capacity from Durban Heights waterworks that supply most areas in Durban,” said the eThekwini Municipality in a statement.
“This shut will allow only 280Ml/day of water to be treated for distribution to eThekwini Water and Sanitation customers as opposed to an average of 550Ml/day.”
The city has urged residents to plan their water affairs accordingly during the 19 hours.

Residents are also requested to reduce their water usage by 50 per cent one day before and three days after the outage.
“Risk assessments have been carried out and if this repair is not carried out, we risk an emergency where further failure could result in two months’ shortage of supply,” read the statement.
eThekwini Water and Sanitation Unit will be implementing intermittent closing of strategic reservoir outlets to protect the network systems during the 19 hours and upon recovery of the system.
