Help sponsor TV series project

Comedian, Lwazi Mthiyane, put pen to paper and started writing a TV series.

DURBAN comedian, Lwazi Mthiyane, is one of many comedians and artists who have been affected badly during the pandemic.

However this did not get him down, instead he put pen to paper and started writing a TV series.

Local company, Friends of SA Comedy, received this script from Lwazi requesting their opinion or if they had an idea whom to approach to pitch it too. The company fell in love with the concept and thought it had great potential.

“Friends of SA Comedy are taking a dream, not only his but ours, and turning it into reality! We are currently in the pre-production phase of TV series ‘Ghetto Cheese’. Our company is all about giving our local talent opportunities to use their talents right here in KZN. We find that we lose our very talented youth to Johannesburg and Cape Town because unfortunately there are just not enough opportunities for them here. We want that to change therefore we are making it local because ‘local is lekker’,” said Chevonne Strugnell-Sanders, director of Friends of South African Comedy.

Chevonne said all the cast and crew on this project are local. “We do have seasoned talent working on this project but will also have exciting new talent involved,” she said.

Chevonne said the pilot episode is being independently funded by Friends of SA Comedy, and in efforts to minimise production costs they are using locations available to them at no cost, shooting the pilot in two to three days, scheduled to start shooting on 19 February. All cast and crew (15 in total) involved in the pilot production have agreed to do it without any financial compensation.

“But no matter how cost-effective we are, we do have expenses. We are looking for sponsors and would be greatly appreciative of any sponsorship that can be offered to us, whether it is full sponsorship, partial or discounted rates or a cash donation. If anyone is wanting to sponsor or contribute to making dreams come true, they are urged to contact me,” said Chevonne.
