Man appears in Durban court for robbery

Capt Muzi Maphumulo said Durban Central police will continue to curb crime by bringing perpetrators before the court of law.

A ROBBERY suspect made his first court appearance after his arrest by Durban Central police officers in Durban on Saturday.

Commenting on the case, Capt Muzi Maphumulo from Durban Central SAPS, said it is alleged that on Saturday, 13 February at about 3pm, a man was walking along Alexandra Road in Durban CBD when he was attacked by a group of eight men, who grabbed him and threatened him with knives.
“The group took away his wallet containing cash and bank cards and let him go after they had robbed him. He was not injured in the incident,” he said.

Maphumulo said after the incident, the man saw a police van nearby.

He stopped the police and alerted them to the robbery.

“Durban Central members went with the man to the scene of crime. He saw the suspects and pointed them out to the police. The police managed to arrest one of the suspects although the man’s property was not recovered. The other seven fled the scene and police are still searching for them,” he said.

“Durban Central police will continue to curb crime by bringing perpetrators before the court of law,” he said.
