Six school children injured in Umbilo car accident

The six children were transported to various hospitals across the city.

Six school children were seriously injured following a car accident at the corner of Umbilo Road and Queen Mary Avenue on Tuesday morning. 

“The six children were travelling with school transport. All of them were injured but no one was critical. They were transported to various hospitals across the city,” said Garrith Jamieson, an advanced life support paramedic.

Jamieson said it was not clear what caused the single vehicle accident. 

From the scene, Jamieson said it looked like the vehicle hit a wall and overturned. The driver was not injured. Umbilo police are investigating.
