Who still collects bread tags?

Penny Lombaard has two large bags of bread tags and is appealing to anyone in the community or any organisation who collects these, to contact her.

UMBILO resident, Penny Lombaard is looking for someone in the community who still collects bread tags for charity.

Penny, who has been collecting bread tags for years, said she used to drop these off with a resident, Lyn McIlvaney, who collects various items for different charities, Lyn, in turn, handed these over to a fellow avid recycler, who has since moved to Johannesburg.

Penny said she and Janice McKenzie, principal of a Glenashley school, worked together to collect the bread tags, all to make a difference in the lives of those who could benefit from a wheelchair.

“Janice motivates the children at her school to think of others. To collect items which can benefit those in need. One term it will be bread tags, then aluminium tops, then plastic tops. She encourages the children to donate bread tags, saying how something as tiny as a bread tag can help buy someone a wheelchair.

“I also collect my own bread tags and store them so we can put it all together to be collected. The bag doesn’t take up space and we are doing this for such a good cause,” she said.

Now Penny has two large bags of bread tags and is appealing to anyone in the community who collects these as part of a project to save up for a wheelchair, or who can pass these on to help in this regard, to contact her.

If anyone can assist, contact Penny on 083 777 1013.
