Man stabbed in stomach, suspect appears in Durban court

The suspect was arrested after he stabbed another man in the stomach.

A SUSPECT, who was arrested by Durban Central police for assault with intent to commit grievous bodily harm and possession of a dangerous weapon, appeared in the Durban Magistrate’s Court today, 8 February.

According to Sgt Zanele Khomo from Durban Central SAPS, this comes after the arrest on Sunday, 7 February.

She said at around 6.15pm, Durban Central crime prevention members were patrolling along Joseph Nduli and Monty Naicker Roads when they noticed a group of people.

“Members approached the group as to ascertain what had happened, and they noticed a man who had blood on his T-shirt by his stomach. They also saw one man who was acting suspiciously. They took the man who was acting suspiciously to the man with blood on his shirt, and he identified the man as the one who had stabbed him,” she said.

The victim was then rushed to a local hospital for medical assistance and the other man was then searched.

“A brown okapi knife, which was used in the stabbing, was found in his possession. The man was arrested and was charged with assault GBH (grievous bodily harm) and possession of a dangerous weapon,” she said.
