VALENTINE’S Day is around the corner and for many elderly people, who are vulnerable during the Covid-19 pandemic, it will be another lonely celebration.
The Association for the Aged (TAFTA) has urged the public to open their hearts to our community’s elderly by making one of the senior citizens your secret Valentine.

Bring some comfort and relief to the isolated elders by donating a Covid Care Kit.
At just R200, each kit contains natural immune boosters – lemon, eucalyptus, ginger, garlic and Vitamin C, hand sanitiser and a face mask, a book or magazine to fill the lonely hours of isolation, a chocolate treat and a personal message of encouragement and support.
There is also an option for a R250 care pack, which includes all the above, plus additional PPE items and a self-care “time out” voucher to see them through a particularly difficult patch.

This covers the cost of a stand-in carer to take over for 30 minutes to an hour while they take a much-needed breather.
“If you’re feeling overwhelmed at the moment, imagine what it’s like for elders in isolation at Tafta, and the essential frontline workers looking after them,” said Tafta CEO Femada Shamam.
She said TAFTA had done everything possible to keep the virus out of its homes, and each time there is an outbreak, they feel a devastating sense of failure.
“But our homes are not medical facilities and our care practitioners are not medically trained. Most feel totally overwhelmed, physically and mentally. Just knowing that someone cares and understands means so much. And what better time to shower them with a little love than now, with Valentine’s Day on the horizon?” she said.
