“Being a finalist was a lot of work but all in all it was an amazing experience. Some of the highlights included attending a walkathon for the fight against gender based violence, being invited as a guest judge at pageants, asking the public to vote for me everyday and doing volunteer work in my community. What I’ve learnt is that hard work, determination and perseverance do pay off and I will use these principles in all aspects of my life,” said Zama.

Zama draws inspiration from previous Miss South Africa winners such as Boipelo Mabe, Zozibini Tunzi and Rolene Strauss. She said she hopes to one day reign alongside these amazing women. She also explained that one of her most challenging moments in life was getting through matric because there was a lot of pressure from everyone to do well.

“This made me doubt myself, and fear of failure was high but in the end I did pass well and can testify that difficult times don’t last forever,” she said.

Her message to the youth is “to always believe in yourself and your capabilities. Whatever challenges you may be facing will not last forever. What matters is that we all continue to move forward and never forget to dream because dreams do come true”.

Zama said she owes everything she has to the grace of God and the amazing support from friends and family.
