Illegal immigrants caught in Durban with cocaine

Four suspects were charged for possession of drugs, bribery and also in terms of the Immigration Act following their arrest in the Durban CBD.

POLICE officers from the Durban Central Crime Prevention Unit arrested four suspects for possession of drugs, illegal immigration and bribery on Thursday, 28 January.

The suspects, aged between 27 and 38, are expected to appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court today, 29 January. According to Col Thembeka Mbele from provincial SAPS, on Thursday at around 4pm, the police officers were in a police vehicle parked along Bertha Mkhize Road in the Durban CBD when an unknown person threw down R500 wrapped in plastic and walked away.

“When the police officers asked him what the money was for, he just jumped into his vehicle and drove away. The police officers chased the vehicle and managed to stop it and conducted a search. The police officers found four men in the vehicle. None of the men were in possession of permits to be in the country. The suspects were also found in possession of 66 packets of cocaine blocks wrapped in plastic. R6 000 in cash, suspected to be the proceeds of crime, was also seized from the suspects,” said Mbele.

The four suspects were charged for possession of drugs, bribery and also in terms of the Immigration Act.
