Suspect nabbed in Durban with drugs valued over R300 000

A 48-year-old man appeared in the Durban Magistrate’s Court today after he was found in possession of drugs. 

According to Col Thembeka Mbele from provincial SAPS, his arrest follows an operation that was conducted by police officers from the Provincial Drug and Firearm Unit on Wednesday afternoon at 5pm.

“The team proceeded to a flat situated on Smith Street and conducted a search. Upon searching the flat, the suspect was found in possession of 1644 pieces of rock cocaine, 10 moons of rock cocaine, 1350 capsules of heroin, mandrax tablets and five plastic packets of cocaine powder weighing 389 grams,” she said.

Mbele said cash of R18 110 suspected to be the proceeds of drugs was also seized by police.

The estimated street value of the recovered drugs is R360 570.

A case of possession of drugs was opened at Point SAPS for investigation.

“This arrest is testimony that drug operations are in full swing. I am pleased with the recent arrests made to curb the dealing and abuse of drugs as well as other cases in the province,” said the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lt Gen Khombinkosi Jula.
