Business robber nabbed while fleeing from Durban police

Police are still searching for the remaining suspects involved in the armed robbery.

A MAN was arrested by Durban police following a robbery at a business on Stamford Hill Road.

According to Col Thembeka Mbele from provincial SAPS, it is alleged that on Wednesday at around 10am, five unknown men entered the business premises and held up the employees.

“At gunpoint, the suspects took various brands of new cellphones, clothes and colognes before fleeing the scene in their getaway vehicle. The police were immediately alerted and a multi-disciplinary operation was put in place to trace the suspects involved. Information was gathered by the team that led police to Besters. Upon arrival at the identified area, two suspects were seen running away from a house,” she said.

Mbele said the team gave chase and managed to arrest a 29-year-old suspect. Inside the house, police recovered 85 sealed boxes of cellphones, three colognes as well as several items of clothing taken during the robbery.

“Police are still searching for the remaining suspects. The estimated value of the recovered property is R150 000. The arrested suspect will appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court soon facing charges of robbery,” she said.

KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula commended the team for the swift arrest of the suspect.
