Capt Muzi Maphumulo from Durban Central SAPS said drug abuse has increased in society.

DURBAN Central SAPS has seen an increase in the number of youth who are being arrested for drug violations.

Capt Muzi Maphumulo from Durban Central SAPS, said drug abuse has increased in society.

“The lives of our youth are being thrown away because of drug use. The police want to bring awareness to our youth who are taking drugs, because of peer pressure or because they want to please someone, to stop the use of drugs. Heroin, ecstasy, Incika and other forms of drugs have taken the city by storm and our youth are being affected,” said Maphumulo.

He said drug possession is a crime for which one can be prosecuted, and to have a criminal record can affect the convicted person’s future in a negative way.
