NGO offers free medical male circumcision in eThekwini

Jhpiego offers free medical male circumcision in eThekwini.

LOCAL NGO Jhpiego encourages men to step up and get a free medical male circumcision in 2021.

Jhpiego’s Phakamani Ndlovu said: “We know that circumcision reduces transmission of HIV by 60 per cent, and we know that our province has one of the highest rates of HIV in the world, so let’s do whatever we can to bring down those rates.”

“All eThekwini men need to step up and do their bit in the fight against HIV. Getting circumcised and then promoting circumcision to your friends is one easy thing we can all do as men.”

Voluntary medical male circumcision (VMMC) can be done all year around, and weather and temperature do not affect the healing process.

Ndlovu also urged people to use condoms.

“No condom can eliminate all risk but when used consistently and correctly, condoms reduce your risk of contracting HIV, other STIs and help prevent unplanned pregnancy,” he said.

He said the NGO’s objective is to ensure free access to quality VMMC services for young and adult males, especially those between the ages of 15 and 34 years, as they are more sexually active or are likely to have made their sexual debut and are at a great risk of HIV infection and transmission.
