Durban SAPS nab knife-wielding suspect

The man will be appearing in the Durban Magistrate's Court today, 18 January on charges of attempted robbery.

DURBAN Central crime prevention members responded to a robbery in progress on Julius Nyerere Avenue in Durban on 16 January, and arrested a 29-year-old suspect on the scene.

According to Sgt Zanele Khomo from Durban Central SAPS, at around 7am, officers were patrolling along Julius Nyerere Avenue when they heard a woman screaming for help.

“The members swiftly responded and arrested a suspect who was positively identified by the victim. He had pointed a knife at her and attempted to rob her.  The suspect was immediately placed under arrest and was charged with attempted robbery,” said Khomo.

A  knife was also recovered in the man’s possession.

He was set to appear at the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 18 January.

“The members’ rapid response is applauded,” said Khomo.
