Group arrested for peaceful demonstration in Durban
People found to be contravening the regulations could receive a fine or face imprisonment for a period not exceeding six months.
POLICE arrested a group of 30 demonstrators in Durban for contravening gathering regulations.
Police said the group had convened at King Dinizulu Park with the intention to stage a peaceful demonstration relating to Covid-19 and march to the City Hall to hand over a memorandum.

“The Durban Central police warned the organisers to disperse as the gathering was not allowed under level 3 of the Disaster Management Act (DMA). The marchers, who were carrying placards chanting along West Street in the Durban CBD, were dispersed and four of them were arrested for gathering illegally under the Disaster Management Act,” said Colonel Thembela Mbhele, KwaZulu-Natal SAPS spokesperson.
