Busy festive season for Durban SPCA

Ensure your pets are microchipped as this is the best and easiest way for them to get back to you in the event that they get lost.

THE festive season was once again a busy time for the Durban and Coast SPCA.

Marketing manager, Tanya Fleischer, said during the period starting 24 December and ending 2 January, the Durban and Coast SPCA saw over 400 stray and unwanted cats, kittens, puppies and dogs being admitted. Of this, 34 per cent of animals were surrendered as unwanted pets, with 66 per cent being strays.

“Of the 66 per cent, only six animals have been claimed by their owners. Others are still waiting for their owners or are waiting for new homes,” she said.

Tanya said if you have lost your pet, visit the SPCA to check if your pet is there or call the kennels department during office hours (Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm and Saturday, 8am to 12.30pm) to complete a lost pet report on 031 579 6524/6.

“Please ensure your pets are microchipped as this is the best and easiest way for them to get back to you in the event that they get lost. You can book with the SPCA to have your pets microchipped,” she said.

Tanya reported that there were no fireworks-related injuries this new year’s, however there was one rescue.
