KZN, Durban named as Covid-19 hotspots
The province has the third largest number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in the country.
THE province of KwaZulu-Natal was named as one of the country’s Covid-19 hotspots during the address by President Cyril Ramaphosa on Monday.
Durban, accounting for about half of the total confirmed cases and Covid-19 related deaths in the province, was also designated as one the country’s hotspots.
The other KZN districts that have been confirmed as hotspots are Umgungundlovu, Ugu , Harry Gwala, King Cetshwayo and Ilembe.
“Those living in hotspots districts are strongly encouraged to minimise their travel within the district to essential travel so as to minimise contact with other people,” said Ramaphosa.

Part of the restrictions put in place that are specific to KZN, is the total closure of beaches until January 15.
Previously, beaches were open on specific days but social media posts showing large crowds of people at Durban beaches have garnered a lot of online outrage.
Last week, a life guard was hospitalised and four people were arrested following a brawl at Margate Beach.
As of 28 December, KZN had 185 956 confirmed Covid-19 cases, with 4020 related deaths.
