Morningside family tied up during house robbery

The homeowners were tied up by four armed suspects.

A MORNINGSIDE family was left visibly shaken after being tied up by four armed suspects during a home invasion this week.

Armed response and tactical medical officers were dispatched to Bangor Place around 3pm on Monday, after receiving a call regarding an alleged house robbery.

On arrival, officers found that four male suspects, armed with handguns, had derailed the driveway gate before storming the family home, said Kyle van Reenen, DRK Tactical spokesman.

The victims, who were home at the time, were reportedly made to lie down in a bedroom while one of the suspects bound their hands with cable ties, he said.

The men are said to have then ransacked the home, and fled the scene with two flat screen televisions, seven cellphones and two vehicles – a BMW and a Ford.

Both vehicles were later recovered by the South African Police Services and tracking companies west of Durban, he said.

Although visibly traumatised in the ordeal, the victims did not sustain any physical injury and did not require further medical attention, confirmed Van Reenen.

The scene was secured and handed over to the police for further investigation and processing.
