Seven men nabbed for Durban cellphone robberies

The suspects were detained at Durban Central and are expected to appear in court today.

DURBAN police arrested seven robbery suspects in various cases at the weekend.

The arrested suspects are expected to appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court today, 14 December. According to Capt Muzi Maphumulo from Durban Central, the first arrest took place on Friday, 11 December after police responded to a robbery case.

“The victim was robbed of his cellphone when he was walking along Dr Yusuf Dadoo Street in Durban CBD. Durban Central members made a swift initial investigation by tracing the cellphone’s location. The police arrested a suspect on Sunday and recovered the cellphone,” he said.
 
 
In another case, six suspects were arrested in the Durban CBD after they committed a robbery along Soldiers Way.
 
Maphumulo said two groups of three targeted two victims in separate incidents on Saturday, robbing them of cellphones.
 
“Durban Central police and Metro Police with the assistance of the community arrested all six suspects after the two robbery incidents. All the cellphones were recovered,” he said.
 
Maphumulo said the suspects were detained at Durban Central and are expected to appear in court today.
