Wife of eThekwini City Manager also in the dock

The matter was postponed previously to give state prosecutors time to finalise a mammoth 350 000-page financial audit report.

BAGCINELE Nzuza, the wife of eThekwini Municipality City Manager Sipho Nzuza, became the 18th accused person in the matter involving the irregular Durban Solid Waste tender that cost in excess of R430 million.

Bagcinele made a brief appearance at the Durban Magistrate’s Court where she was released on unopposed bail of R30 000.

She is charged with conspiracy to commit fraud, money laundering and corruption.

In a statement released by the Directorate for Priority Crimes Investigations (Hawks), Bagcinele, “allegedly facilitated the fitting of a build-in kitchen at her mother-in-law’s house and one of the Service Providers implicated in the multi-million rand solid waste tender allegedly paid R18 000-00 for the fitting.”

As part of her bail conditions, Bagcinele gave up her passport to the state and will be required to notify her investigating officer 48 hours ahead if she wants to leave the province. Like all other accused, Bagcinele is not allowed to speak to any people of working in the city’s Supply Chain Management unit.

Bagcinele, along with her husband Sipho, former eThekwini Mayor Zandile Gumede, and 15 other accused, are expected back in court on 10 December.

The matter was postponed previously to give state prosecutors time to finalise a mammoth 350 000-page financial audit report.
