TAFTA reports sixth Covid-19 death

The home, John Dunn House, is being assisted by the Department of Health with further testing and screening.

THE Association for the Aged (TAFTA) has reported the sixth Covid-19 fatality at its residential homes since the outbreak of the pandemic.

Speaking about the case, CEO Femada Shamam said the sixth elder, who was a resident at the Association’s John Dunn House, died following a Covid-19 positive diagnosis on Wednesday, 2 December.

“The 75-year-old was a diabetic and became symptomatic on Saturday afternoon,” she said. “He was taken to hospital for treatment and the home received news of his positive diagnosis yesterday. Sadly, he passed away last night,” she said.

Shamam said a second resident, who has since shown symptoms of the virus, has been admitted to hospital and the home has implemented emergency protocols to control the spread of the infection.

“The home is being assisted by the Department of Health with further testing and screening,” she said.

TAFTA reported its first cases of Covid-19 in March, when two residents at Bill Buchanan were diagnosed with the virus.

The first death was recorded in July when a resident at Tafta on Ridge succumbed to the virus.

The association hasn’t recorded a Covid-19-related death since the end of September.
