In dramatic footage, students were seen coughing heavily after rushing out of the burning building.

Firefighters quickly reported to the scene.

Alan Khan, Senior Director of Corporate Affairs at DUT, confirmed that the fire has been contained.*

Khan said all the students were evacuated safely with one asthmatic student currently being treated at a nearby hospital for smoke inhalation.

The fire had broken out on the ground floor in the server room, he said.

“The cause of the fire is currently unknown. The university, along with the fire department, are at the scene, investigating the cause of the fire. The university is grateful for the quick response from the fire department and from our staff and students in the BM Patel Library,” said Khan.

According to Khan, the server room, an IT office and the passage to the server room were damaged.
