Woman abandoned in field after attempted rape

Police believe the person they have an identikit of can assist in the investigation.

DURBAN Central Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit is appealing to the community for assistance in solving a case of sexual assault they are investigating.

According to provincial SAPS spokesperson, Capt Nqobile Gwala, it is alleged that on 2 October at around 2pm, a 30-year-old woman went to meet a man in Durban after she was told to go for a job interview.

“The victim was earlier contacted by the person who promised her employment after he informed the victim that he saw her job application online. The victim was taken by the suspect in a white sedan to a sugarcane field on the north coast,” she said.

Gwala said the man, who called himself Mr Govender, attempted to rape the woman.

“The victim fought back, however, she was sexually molested, and then left in the sugarcane field,” she said.

Police believe the person they have an identikit of can assist in the investigation.
