Umbilo theft suspects in court

Police recovered four bags of computer boxes, key programmers, hammer, ignitions and various type of keys in the arrest.

TWO suspected housebreakers will appear in court today, 20 November following their arrest by Umbilo police on 19 November.

Commenting on the case, Col Thembeka Mbele from provincial SAPS said at around 11am on 19 November, Umbilo Task Team were conducting crime prevention duties in Umbilo and surrounding areas when they spotted a silver bakkie with four occupants driving around.

“The police approached the vehicle however it sped off towards Cato Manor. The task team together with the district task team gave chase and stopped the vehicle in Dunbar Road. The two suspects were arrested, however two others jumped out of the vehicle and ran between the shacks,” she said.

The vehicle was searched and police recovered four bags of computer boxes, key programmers, hammer, ignitions and various type of keys. The suspects were charged with possession of car breaking implements and will also be profiled to check if they are linked to other cases committed in Umbilo and surrounding areas.

KwaZulu-Natal provincial commissioner, Lt Gen Khombinkosi Jula welcomed the arrest of the suspects. “KwaZulu-Natal is not a place for criminals and the police will continue to put those who break the law behind bars,” he said.
