Those who have illegal firearms in their possession must make use of the firearm amnesty to hand these in.

OPERATIONS to eradicate the proliferation of illegal firearms in the province led to the recovery of 150 firearms in October.

KZN police spokesperson, Colonel Thembeka Mbele, said a number of operations are being conducted to remove illegal firearms which contribute to serious and violent crimes. She said most of the firearms were recovered within the eThekwini, UMgungundlovu and Uthukela district policing areas.

“Police recovered 143 pistols, four shotguns, three rifles and 1004 rounds of ammunition with 172 arrests effected. These operations are continuing to limit unnecessary deaths of innocent people and robbery incidents, especially in businesses,” she said.
