Dads and Daughters Picnic Lunch is an initiative aimed at mainly strengthening the bond between fathers and daughters.

As the series of events proceed, organisers will also involve mothers and sons, fathers and sons and also moms and daughters.

Thami Ntimbane (41) has a very strong bond with his daughter, Lindelwa Ntimbane (12).

“She is aware that, culturally and otherwise, most dads connect better with sons rather than daughters. We hope to strengthen the bond and also assist with conflict resolution strategies between parents especially when parents are no longer together,” said Thami.

Thami has worked for over 5 years with the NGO known as UCEC (Umgeni Community Empowerment Centre). UCEC, he said, trained him vastly on awareness campaigns especially regarding Human trafficking, emotional abuse, sexual abuse, peer pressure, Stranger danger and harmful traditional practices.

He was also a part of the HHPPB (Human Trafficking, Harmful Traditional Practices, Prostitution, Pornography and Brothels – Task Team) with its currently piloted by Advocate Dawn Coleman of the National Proscecuting Authority.

“Doing presentations for many schools around Durban and working with big names to raise awareness has grown my passion for social awareness. My daughter and myself will host a fun-filled day with lots of games and most importantly safety tips on how not to get abducted,” he said.

This is the first event under our new organisation Age of Action.

The Ubuntu Market that hosts local creatives will be held this weekend alongside Indigenous Saturday skill development offering: pottery classes for all ages, guitar classes for beginners of all ages and arts and crafts for toddlers to six year olds.
