Thief nabbed by off-duty Durban policemen while remote jamming a vehicle

The man was in the process of remote jamming a vehicle parked in the Durban CBD when police swooped on him.

A MAN is in police custody at Durban Central SAPS  for theft out of motor vehicle and possession of suspected stolen property.

Sgt Zanele Khomo from Durban Central SAPS said the incident occurred on Thursday, 5 November at around 5.15pm.

She said the officers were on their way to Durban Central for night shift duties when they saw a man acting suspiciously at the intersection of Dorothy Nyembe (Gardiner) and Dr Pixley KaSeme (West) Streets.

“The man was opening the rear left door of a vehicle while the owner of the vehicle was in the process of locking it. The man opened the back door and removed a black bag that was on the back seat. Members approached him as he was locking the door and trying to flee. They apprehended him and alerted the vehicle owner to return to his vehicle where it was found that the vehicle was unlocked,” she said.

The man was arrested and the black bag was returned back to the vehicle owner.

The suspect will be charged for theft out of motor vehicle and section 36 (being in possession of suspected stolen property) and will appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court soon.
