VIDEO/ PHOTOS: Private emergency services halted as wage dispute protest commences

THE blare of sirens rang across Durban as private emergency services embarked on a procession protest on Friday morning (30 October).

The KwaZulu-Natal Private Ambulance Association (KZNPAA), made up of 25 private emergency services, said they are owed in excess of R5 million by the Road Accident Fund (RAF).
“There are companies that have had to downsize due to this,” said Garrith Jamieson, KZNPAA spokesperson.
“It’s hard running an emergency company without being paid on time, there’s petrol, salaries and other costs one has to take into account.”
The procession is going to travel across West Street to the RAF offices on Aliwal Street where the association leaders will hand over a memorandum of demands.

During the course of the protest, the ambulance services will not be on active duty. The procession is accompanied by police.
