The suspects fled the scene when security arrived.

A car was successfully recovered an hour after it was stolen in Morningside.

On Tuesday, an alert Blue Security area manager spotted the car abandoned in Sydenham and notified the tracking company.

“Various security service providers had been notified of the missing vehicle and the intense search included a helicopter flying over the area,” said Andreas Mathios, Blue Security’s community and media liaison officer.

“The tracking company’s helicopter also flew over the crime scene and, using GPS triangulation technology, affirmed that the area manager had indeed recovered the correct vehicle,” he added.

Mathios said the hijackers  fled the scene when they arrived. The car was returned to its owners.

“Even though the vehicle’s signage had been removed by the suspects to prevent it being identified while in transit, Blue Security’s area manager was still successful in locating the bakkie about five kilometres from where it had been stolen,” said Mathios.
