Two men in court for Bulwer robbery

Umbilo police officers were conducting an operation in a robbery hot spot in Brand Road, near Davenport Square, when they were stopped by two men who said they had been robbed.

TWO men are appearing in the Durban Magistrate’s Court today on charges of robbery and possession of a dangerous weapon following an arrest in Umbilo on Monday, 26 October.

According to Capt Pumzile Makaula, from Umbilo SAPS, at around 2.30pm, Umbilo police officers were conducting an operation in a robbery hot spot in Brand Road, near Davenport Square, when they were stopped by two men who said they had been robbed.

“The men informed police officers that they had been robbed at knifepoint when they were sitting in their car and that the suspects stole a cellphone and cash,” said Makaula.

The police officers took down the description of the suspects and then went in the direction in which the men fled.

“When the suspects saw the police approach, they fled in different directions. The police officers gave chase and both suspects were arrested. The suspects were found in possession of the stolen cellphone and cash. They were also in possession of knives when they were arrested by police,” she said.

Umbilo SAPS management commended the officers for another robbery arrest.
