Durban’s Amazulu FC confirms signing of Siphiwe Tshabalala

The 36-year-old, who famously scored the opening goal of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, was unveiled on Monday along with nine other players during a press conference at the Hilton Hotel. 

Durban-based football club, Amazulu FC, have signed South African footballing icon, Siphiwe Tshabalala.

The 36-year-old, who famously scored the opening goal of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, was unveiled on Monday along with nine other players during a press conference at the Hilton Hotel.

Amazulu, which is now under new ownership, is planning on mounting a serious challenge for the top spots this season. 

“I am happy to be here in Durban. I would like to thank the chairman, Sandile Zungu whom I met with and he told me plans of his vision for Amazulu and that’s why I am here,” said Tshabalala.

Despite the fact that the club was relegated from the Premier Soccer League five seasons ago and only gained promotion through buying their spot from Mpumalanga Black Aces, Amazulu have set themselves a challenge of a top 4 finish this season.

Amazulu kick off their season this Saturday night against Orlando Pirates at the Kings Park Stadium.
