Swift response by Durban police results in arrest

The suspect accosted a woman at knifepoint before fleeing with her cellphone.

A MAN was arrested by Durban Central police in Durban CBD for robbery, possession of a dangerous weapon and for being in possession of suspected stolen property. 

Sgt Zanele Khomo from Durban Central SAPS, said Field Unit officers were patrolling at the intersection of Queen Street and Cathedral Road, which is a common hotspot for robberies, when a woman in a vehicle nearby was accosted by a man at knifepoint.

“He robbed her of her cellphone and fled. The officers, who were patrolling on foot, observed what had happened and gave chase. The man was apprehended and the woman’s property was recovered,” said Khomo.

The suspect’s knife was recovered and he was arrested and charged for robbery, possession of a dangerous weapon and section 36 (being in possession of suspected stolen property).

“He will appear in court in due course.  Durban Central management praised the members for the swift response and excellent work,” said Khomo.
