Man arrested in Umbilo for possession of illegal firearm

The suspect will be profiled to establish if he was involved in any other cases in the Umbilo area.

UMBILO SAPS officers have been commended by the Umbilo CPF for a good arrest and for taking an illegal weapon off the streets.

This comes after the arrest of a man on 5 September at around 1.45pm.

While conducting Operation Vala stop and search operations in the Dalton area in Umbilo, Cst TJ Pillay and Sgt B Thaleni noticed a man running into a wooden shack nearby.

The officers gave chase and apprehended the man.

They searched him and found a 9mm Norinco in his possession with the serial number filed off and live rounds in the magazine, and one hollow point in the chamber.

He was arrested for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm and for unlawful possession of ammunition.

The suspect will be profiled to establish if he was involved in any other cases in the area.
