EFF warns West Street Clicks to keep its doors closed

The EFF in eThekwini has promised to shut down Clicks stores for the rest of the week.

CLICKS in West Street has been warned by the KZN branch of the Economic Freedom Fighters to keep its doors closed for the rest of the week.

“We want to warn you Clicks, tomorrow if you open this shop we are going to turn it upside down,” said Vusimuzi Khoza, chairperson of the EFF in KZN.

The EFF has embarked on a nationwide campaign to shut down all Clicks stores.

This follows a racially insensitive advert that was posted on the Clicks website last week.

The advert showed a black female model with an Afro labelled as ‘dry and damaged’ alongside a white female model with blonde straight hair labelled as ‘fine & flat’.

Clicks has since removed the advert from its website and issued a public apology.

The EFF was, however, not satisfied with the apology and on Sunday night issued a statement calling for their members across the country to shut down Clicks stores.

Clicks, in response, issued a statement saying they will be opening all their stores with increased security.

In a statement, Clicks said there were protests at 37 of their stores in KZN, Gauteng and Western Cape.

“Clicks strongly condemns violence of any kind or intimidation of staff and its customers. Clicks will take legal action against perpetrators and those seeking to incite violence or harm our people and our stores,” said statement.

“Clicks provides a much-needed healthcare service to South Africans. Stores will remain open for trading and contingency plans have been put in place to ensure the safety of both customers and staff.”
