Police arrest wanted fraudster after five year search

The pension fraudster was nabbed by Durban detectives in the Camperdown area this week.

A WANTED fraudster was arrested by Durban Central detectives in the early hours of the morning on 3 September.

According to Capt Muzi Maphumulo from Durban Central Corporate Communications, it is alleged that the 32-year-old man had defrauded the complainant in 2015, of R1.7 million pension money.

She had been working for the Department of Education as a school teacher at the time.

“The suspect befriended the school teacher and also proposed love at first. It is said that the suspect brainwashed her to resign from her employment with the hope of multiplying her pension money with his assistance. The complainant had allegedly resigned from work in 2015 and had handed over her pension to the suspect with the hope of having it multiplied. The suspect then disappeared without a trace,” said Maphumulo.

Police are appealing to anyone who might have been a victim of the same kind of scam, to contact Captain Gumede on 031 325 4176.
