Ntombizandle Ndlovu, DUT Alumni Coordinator, was sentenced to six years imprisonment at the Durban Specialised Commercial Crimes Court after pleading guilty to fraud and money laundering.

Ndlovu had taken advantage of a DUT life insurance policy by claiming for her dead husband even though she was unmarried. She used the details of an unknown man.

The fraudulent claim of R850 592 was paid out by insurance company, Momentum.

“(Momentum) launched an investigation after several suspicious claims were lodged by the university and Ndlovu’s fraudulent activities were exposed,” said Natasha Kara, regional spokesperson for the Department of Public Prosecutions.

“Following the conviction and sentence of Ndlovu, the Asset Forfeiture Unit of the NPA obtained a confiscation order for the amount of R500 000 against her as this was the amount of money they found in her bank account.”
