The public can still make a difference this Mandela Day

Make a difference by supporting a few local charities this Saturday, 18 July.

MANDELA Day will be very different this year, but, despite the circumstances, the public is encouraged to continue with the vision of the former leader and do what they can to improve the lives of those less fortunate.

Make a difference by supporting a few local charities this Saturday, 18 July.

The Association for the Aged (Tafta)

SADLY, Tafta is unable to welcome volunteers into its homes, however the public is invited to shower the elderly with special care kits that will go a long way in helping them deal with the physical, emotional and social distress of Covid-19.

Whether you are an individual looking for something rewarding to do for someone in need, a business person looking for a community team-building project for your staff, or a manufacturer/retailer willing to donate useful items, you can help with donations of items such as disposable gowns, shoe covers, gloves, vehicle disinfectant, pulse oximeter, surface sanitisers, hand sanitisers, tidy hand towels, disposable gloves, KN 95 masks, disposable food containers and cutlery, toilet paper, tooth paste, tooth brush, bath soap/body wash, roll on and shaving cream.

Help the elderly receive their three daily meals in the comfort of their homes by donating non-perishable foods such as canned food, oil, pulses, flour, tea, coffee and long life milk. Donate essential items like adult nappies, sanitary pads, cotton balls, sugar strips, cholesterol strips, band aids, gauze squares, Savlon/ Dettol, and syringes.

Contact 031 332 3721 or visit: www.tafta.org.za.

Centre for Rehabilitation of Wildlife (CROW)

CROW is celebrating the humanitarian legacy of Madiba by hosting its own Mandela Day at the Centre.

You and your team can choose to spend your “67 minutes” with CROW, donate an item off its wishlist, or by donating R67.On 17 and 18 July, CROW will be opening a donation booth at the centre, and hosting volunteer projects.

Saint Giles

HELP people with disabilities this Mandela Day.

Covid-19 has caused a huge impact in people’s lives, and patients of the Saint Giles Remedial Therapy Centre are slowly returning, however many are scared to return for their much-needed therapy due to compromised immune systems. You can help by making a R67 cash or Zapper donation, donate 67 face masks, 67 pairs of gloves for Saint Giles therapists, 67 face shields or 67 bottles of alcohol-based sanitiser.

Contact Brenda on 083 778 1428 or brenda@saintgiles.org.za if you would like to make a difference – your small action could have a big reaction in the lives of people with disabilities.

Wentworth Angels

WENTWORTH Angels is appealing for assistance with donations to help homes affected by poverty, single parent households and unemployment.

Due to Covid-19, the charity has still been maintaining its feeding schemes and would like to host a blanket drive in the Austerville Park.

Tracey Williams from Wentworth Angels is appealing to companies that can assist with donations of beverages, party packs for children and blankets especially for the children and pensioners. Contact Tracey on wentworthangels@yahoo.com.
