Sad farewell to Saint Giles leader

Saint Giles has lost a true professional following the untimely death of its managing director, Terry Rennie.

SAINT Giles is deeply saddened by the untimely passing of its managing director, Terry Rennie, at the weekend.

Speaking about Rennie, Brenda Craig, Marketing, Donor Liaison and Fundraising officer, said since starting at Saint Giles on 1 August 2011, Rennie brought a high level of expertise and experience to the organisation, which he willingly shared, as testament to his enthusiasm to make a significant contribution to the progress of Saint Giles.

In the nine years that he held this position, it was obvious that he was able to build meaningful relationships with the Board of Directors, management and staff, patients of the Remedial Therapy Centre, charity shop patrons, suppliers and many of its dedicated supporters.

“Saint Giles has lost a true professional and all those who benefitted from his guidance and leadership share with his loved ones in this time of passing. The Board of Directors wishes to extend sincere condolences to the Rennie family and all staff in this time of grief. We trust that you will all be able to find the strength to rise above this extremely sad situation,” she said.

Rennie was a proud father and grandfather and loved travelling to the UK to spend time with his two children, Ross and Jacqui, and his three grandchildren, Max, Rebecca and Matthew.

He enjoyed tennis, having played to a high standard in his army days. He was due to attend the Queen’s tennis tournament in the UK this year, as he had last year, which was something that he loved being able to do.

Rennie also had a love for classic cars and collecting antiques, and was in the process of restoring a brass and gold telephone at the time of his death.

He loved a chat, which would often happen over a glass of red wine, and enjoyed eating out, with regular trips to Zack’s where he was well known.

Rennie loved his music, with tastes that ranged from musicals to Barbara Streisand, and had a hidden talent of being able to play the organ.

Saint Giles will be holding a small memorial in line with Covid-19 rules in due course. In lieu of flowers, people can make a donation to Saint Giles in Rennie’s memory. Contact Brenda Craig at 031 337 4404 or email brenda@saintgiles.org.za.
