Drugs worth R1.5 million seized in South Beach

A 55-year-old male was found in possession of pure cocaine powder with an estimated street value of R1.5 million.

POLICE officers from the eThekwini Cluster Task Team conducted an operation in South Beach at Point on 12 June, which led to the arrest of a suspect and the recovery of drugs.

According to police spokesperson, Col Thembeka Mbele, police proceeded to a flat after intelligence driven information about drugs in the area was received.

“A 55-year-old male was found in possession of pure cocaine powder. The estimated street value of the drugs is R1.5 million,” said Mbele.

She said it is suspected that the suspect was in the process of packaging the drugs when they were seized from his flat.

He was taken to Point Police Station where he was detained and is facing charges of dealing in drugs.

KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lt Gen Khombinkosi Jula welcomed the arrest of the suspect and applauded the dedication of the police officers to root out the drug trade.
