Home Affairs renders additional services under Level 3

The Department of Home Affairs can now offer marriage services under level 3 lockdown.

THE Department of Home Affairs as announced that it has added additional services that are now available at its offices under level 3 lockdown.

Offices are open Monday to Friday from 8.30am to 3.30pm and are now able to provide marriage services and receive requests for late registrations of birth, by appointment.

Other services that are currently being rendered include the issue of uncollected Identity Documents, issuing of temporary identity certificates, registration of births and deaths, reissue of birth and death certificates, and the issue of passports to those in export and cargo transport.

Couples wanting to make use of the marriage services must book an appointment by calling their nearest Home Affairs office.

On the day of the marriage they can visit the office with only their witnesses in order to keep numbers at the offices at a bare minimum. An appointment is also required when applying for a late registration of birth (LRB).

Late registration birth applications are lodged 30 days after the birth. Children born during the lockdown will not follow the LRB process.

This includes children who were born from 26 February 2020 but could not be registered because of the lockdown.

People who have not yet collected smart ID cards are urged to collect them from the offices they applied at.

When visiting Home Affairs offices, clients are requested to wear masks and observe social distancing protocols inside and outside the offices.

Refugee reception offices remain closed. However, permits issued lawfully, and expired during the lockdown, will be considered valid until 31 July 2020.

No visa or permitting functions will be open in SA and at Missions abroad during level 3 lockdown.
