KZN university applications open for prospective students

Prospective students are urged to visit the CAO website to check the registration deadlines and updates.

UNIVERSITY applications are still opened for prospective students who want to study in KwaZulu-Natal next year.

The Central Applications Office is reminding interested parties to not forget that deadlines for this year’s cycle have not changed despite the Coronavirus pandemic.

“With the current Coronavirus pandemic spreading uncertainty, fear and anxiety, the task of making career choices and actioning them is so much more challenging,” said George van der Ross, Chief Executive Officer of CAO.

“Learners are not put off by the uncertainty created by the virus. They know that the pandemic will subside at some point and they are preparing for that time. They’re not sitting back, they’re booking their place now and avoiding the rush just before programme closing dates,” he said.

Applications for the 2021 academic year were opened on 30 March with the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) and the Durban University of Technology receiving about 20 000 applications.

On the 1st of June, schools across the country are going to be welcoming back Grade 12 learners since they were closed on the 18 March. Learners who want to be doctors in future have until 30 June to place their applications at UKZN medical school.

Van der Ross said there are university programmes that allow learners to secure their conditional offers based on their Grade 11 results.

“But, with the current situation being what it is, there is uncertainty that these results would be used by universities. Despite this, one thing is certain: the 2020 academic year will be completed by schools and universities and the 2021 academic year will commence. Do not be caught unawares,” he said.

Prospective students are urged to visit the CAO website to check the deadlines and for any future updates.
