South African Rugby Legends Association teams up with SPAR for charity

South African Rugby Legends come together for charity with Spar. You can help, too.

THE South African Rugby Legends Association (Sarla) is challenging its members and supporters to join the #SPARdonate COVID Challenge in aid of underprivileged South African communities.

The challenge is simple. Take a video of yourself in your SPAR store of choice donating one long-life milk, one 1-kilogram bag of maize meal and six eggs, which you will need to place into the designated #SPARdonate trolley in front of the store.

Challenge three or more of your friends to do the same on video and post it on Facebook and Instagram, using the hashtag #SPARdonate, tagging My SPAR and @sarugbylegends.

Each store has identified worthy local charities and organisations in their communities who will receive the donations and SPAR will also donate R1 for every #SPARdonate to the SPAR Lodestar Foundation Feeding Scheme.

Sarla is calling on all their legendary rugby supporters to join this worthy cause during this challenging time in our country, when many communities are in need of assistance following lockdown measures.

The challenge was kickstarted by Rugby Legends Wayne Fyvie, Joel Stransky, Ollie LeRoux and Dick Muir.

“Let’s all get on board with this great initiative. Big thanks to Wayne Fyvie and all the other legends who got this going. Through VUKA Rugby, we reach thousands of boys and girls every year and many of these kids are now not only without sport but also without food.” said Sarla CEO, Stefan Terblanche.

Mike Prentice from SPAR said, “It’s great to see our rugby legends coming together to help our poorer communities. The SPAR COVID Challenge brings the spirit of community to life in a time when it is really needed.

“Anyone can join in the fun and feed hungry people at the same time. Thank you Sarla and South Africa for your support.”

Follow the SPAR COVID Challenge on the My SPAR and @sarugbylegends Facebook pages, and upload your video using the hashtag #SPARdonate, then share it via WhatsApp with your friends and family.

The public is also invited to donate much-needed funds via Sarla, who will purchase food from SPAR and deliver it to the relevant communities. Contact Sarla on info@sarugbylegends.com to donate.
