The COVID-19 virus became all too real for UKZN’s Piano Passion Project recently, when Prof Darius Brubeck was afflicted with the virus.

He found himself on a ventilator, in intensive care, with doctors giving him a 50/50 chance of survival.

Given Darius’ miraculous recovery, and the obvious financial need in our communities, the Piano Passions Project decided a fund-raising thanksgiving concert was in order.

Thanks to social distancing, this will be an online concert – but that means, unlike previous fundraising concerts, supporters from round the world can join in!

The concert will be two hours of piano performances created especially for the event, featuring the wealth of talent that is part of Darius’ legacy in KZN.  Among the pianists to be featured is Melvin Peters.

Tickets are R80 each and available on www.webtickets.co.za (with the option for patrons to donate more).

This event forms part of the weekly online concerts of UKZN’s Centre for Jazz and Popular Music so you could actually buy a pass that covers all the concerts for the month of May.
