#SALockdownLevel4: Durban’s promenade remains closed

Durban Municipality will do a deep clean of the area before it is opened to the public.

THE Durban promenade is closed.

eThekwini Municipality announced the decision to keep the beach promenade closed under level 4 lockdown regulations.

The City said while it recognized that level 4 allowed activities such as jogging and cycling for residents within a 5 km radius from their home, at this stage such activities were prohibited along the City’s promenade.

Mayor Mxolisi Kaunda said the saftey of residents comes first.

“’We are not going to take any chances. Everyone needs to be mindful of the fact that the city is the epicentre of this pandemic. We are going to embark on a deep cleaning and sanitizing operation of the entire facility before we open it to the public,” he said, appealing to residents to bear with the municipality and apologizing for the inconvenience.

“Yes,  residents have been yearning for jogging and cycling on the promenade but we cannot dice with their lives,”’ said Kaunda.

The Municipality in consultation with the Provincial Joint Command took extreme precaution in compliance with the National Disaster Act’ said Kaunda.

“The city is calling upon all its residents to wear masks and obey Covid -19 regulations at all times.”
