AUDIO: Durban muso, Nipho Hurd launches debut project

The wait is over for Nipho Hurd fans as she has finally released her long-awaited and much anticipated debut project.

LOCAL RnB and Future Soul musician Nhlakanipho Khanyile, known to her fans as Nipho Hurd, has been steadily building up her profile in the entertainment industry for the last four years, as a musician, promoter, event organiser, stylist and all-round creative entrepreneur.

As a musician, Nipho Hurd has independently and successfully released two singles – Insecure which features Loki, and Soul Party, which features Neo Ndawo.

She has performed at various events and festivals all over KwaZulu-Natal and as an event organiser, owns and manages her own monthly event called In Your Backyard Sessions which promotes and books upcoming talent from Durban, with the event taking place on the last Saturday of every month at The Charlatan on Florida Road.

Following the release of her singles, fans have been asking Nipho for a full project, and now the wait is finally over.

The Ghel, Nipho’s debut project, is now available for streaming and downloads on all digital streaming platforms worldwide.

“The Ghel is inspired by the viral video of the young girl who proclaims that she is ‘The Ghel’ and she drinks wine. This video caused a social media frenzy and meant a lot of things to many different people. Even South African celebrities such as Bonang have been using the term and it has sort of become a term that everybody knows and uses,” she said.

To Nipho, ‘the ghel’ means ‘Thee Girl’, the special one, the ghel that walks into a room and commands attention, who shines her light bright for all to see, and is an independent, strong young woman who handles her business and takes care of her own.

“Being The Ghel is an attitude that one wears and is an attitude that I aim to spread to young ‘ghels’ all over the country, the message that has been shared in my debut tape,” she said.
