Durban trust appeals for food funds

Dr Baker said the Iqraa Trust believed that providing food was not enough to contain Covid-19 and stop its spread in the townships.

Dr Mahmoud Youssef Baker the Chairman of Iqraa Trust (SA), a non-profit organisation located at 15 Hunt Road, Glenwood, that provides donations and various support programmes to hundreds of organisations and university students throughout South Africa, has issued a heartfelt plea for funding specifically to provide disadvantaged people with food hampers to support them during the Covid-19 crisis and an initiative to provide basic personal protective equipment for distribution in townships, rural areas, public hospitals and the police force.

“We have also allocated funds from our limited resources to this initiative for basic personal protective equipment. With the expected peak of Covid-19 in winter as happened in China, USA and Europe, we have started to secure equipment such as masks and soap for distribution,” he said.

Dr Baker said the Iqraa Trust believed that providing food was not enough to contain Covid-19 and stop its spread in the townships, and accordingly was appealing to government, individual donors and the business community to urgently to partner with it and support its efforts before the expected outbreak of the disease in the approaching winter season. Section 18A Certificates and a regular progress report as well as an acknowledgement of all contributions will be provided.
