DUT donates R1m to help students, staff

DUT pledges R1 million to help staff and students.

SENIOR management officials at the Durban University of Technology are planning to donate R1 million to help students and staff negatively impacted by the lockdown.

The DUT Executive Management Committee (EMC) and the Executive Committee of Senate (SENEX) have established a special DUT COVID-19 Solidarity Fund: Committed, Compassionate.

“The fund will provide relief for members of the DUT community, especially our students who are most vulnerable and have been negatively affected by the current COVID-19 pandemic. Commitment and Compassion are two of the DUT values and principles that the DUT COVID-19 Solidarity Fund is aimed at demonstrating. In line with the President’s Solidarity Fund, its aim is to provide care and support to the most vulnerable in the DUT Community,” said Noxolo Memela, DUT Communications manager.

Members of these committees will contribute, as a collective, a minimum amount of R282 619.00 per month, for the next three months.

The university has set aside R4.5 million towards prevention and detention programmes for when in-person lectures resume.
